Indigenous Artist Registration

Indigenous peoples are diverse communities with distinct social, cultural, economic, and political characteristics that set them apart from the dominant societies in which they live. They can be found in over 70 countries worldwide, totaling an estimated population of more than 370 million people. The term "indigenous" typically refers to the descendants of those who inhabited a particular country or geographical region before the arrival of people from different cultures or ethnic backgrounds who later became dominant through conquest, occupation, settlement, or other means.

The UN emphasises the importance of identifying indigenous peoples rather than strictly defining them. This approach is based on the principle of self-identification, which is highlighted in various human rights documents.
